The current COF was appointed in August 2003. It draws members from different backgrounds to provide feedback on MCYS’ policy reviews and new programmes impacting on the family. Other than being a policy-advisory panel, the current COF undertakes a public consultation role and seeks the public’s views and suggestions on family issues. It also provides views on research on families and helps MCYS identify areas requiring study.

History
The Committee on Family (COF) began with the inception of the National Advisory Council on the Family and Aged (NACFA for short). NACFA was set up in August 1989 and chaired by the then Minister for Community Development. Its aim was to provide a continual focus on issues concerning family and the aged and to recommend policy directions for these areas. Two committees - the COF and the Committee on the Aged (COA) supported the Council.

After the NACFA completed its work in May 1998, the COF was reconstituted in 1999 as a people-sector led civic group committed to the mission of developing strong and stable families. It continued its task of providing feedback and recommending strategies on strengthening families.
The current COF was reconstituted in August 2003. It draws members from different backgrounds to provide feedback and advice on policy reviews and new programmes impacting on the family. Other than being a policy-advisory panel, the current COF undertakes a public consultation role and seeks the public’s views and suggestions on family issues, where appropriate. It also provides views on research on families and helps MCDS identify areas requiring study.
