Getting Help
A good counsellor will be able to help individuals or couples stand back from the tense and often blinding dynamics of the conflict situation. The counsellor guides the couple to look for internal resources and strengths, and work on regaining the trust and commitment which the couple started out with.
A qualified counsellor should have the following qualities:
- Professional qualifications.
- Relevant expertise and experience.
- Someone you can develop a trusting relationship with.
- Someone who is able to help you establish positive goals.
- Someone who is genuinely interested in you and your concerns.
- Competent skills in listening, understanding and communicating.
You can call 1800-838 0100 to reach the nearest Family Service Centre (FSC) for assistance. FSCs are neighbourhood-based focal points of family resource, which everyone can turn to for any family-related matters.
Do not wait till it is too late to go for help. Relationships do not fall apart overnight. The recovery process, too, cannot take place overnight. The longer the problem stays, the more work required to repair the damages. Sometimes, damages become irreparable through delayed intervention.
