Under the Children and Young Persons Act:

Child abuse is defined as any act by a parent, or guardian, or caregiver that endangers or impairs the child's physical or emotional well-being.

• A child is defined as a person below 14 years old.
• A young person is any person who is 14 years and above but below 16 years old
