  Meaning of Family Violence

It means that someone in your family does something to hurt another family member, or say something to make a family member afraid.

It can be done by anyone in your family, but to help you understand better, we use family-members as examples.

  • Causing hurt - It is when father beats mother. It does not matter whether mother was injured or not, what father has done is wrong.
  • Threatening to hurt - It is when sister tells brother that she will get her friends to hurt him. As long as it makes brother afraid, it is wrong.
  • Wrongful confinement - It is when uncle has locked up your aunt and he does not let her go out of the house. Your aunt can get hurt if anything such as fire or an accident happens. What he has done is wrong.
  • Continual harassment - It is when mother keeps on calling father at his working place even though he asked her to stop doing that. She is disturbing him from working. People should respect each other's wishes.
