What do you do if there is violence at home?
Nobody deserves to be beaten up. All of us are valuable and should be treated that way.
You have a right to be safe. Fighting with fists or shouting will not solve any problem but talking about them can help.
If you or your family members are being hurt, tell someone about it. That person could be your teacher, a school counsellor, a relative or adult friend. He or she may be able to give you advice on what to do to help your family.

You are at home when your parents fight?
What you should do
- Stay out of the way. Stay in a place in your home where you will be safe. Go to your neighbour's place if it is not safe to be at home.
- If you have your own room, lock the door. Stay inside until it is over.
- If you can get to a telephone, call for help. Call 999 right away if one of your family members is in danger. Always keep important phone numbers with you, or learn your neighbour, friend, grandparent or relatives' numbers by heart.
- Do not blame yourself. The fight has nothing to do with you.
Where it is necessary, do not hesitate to go to the Police for assistance. It might save your family members from being hurt.
