NYP students make top TV commercials
THE TV commercials being aired for this year's National Family Week will be the handiwork of Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) students.
.
This year's campaign, "We're Not That Different", sets out to promote stronger bonds between teenagers and parents.
.
The Ministry of Community Development and Sports (MCDS) commissioned 60 second-year School of Design students to produce the 30-second animated clips, which the students produced as part of a year-end project.
.
The top three groups were awarded cash prizes of $1,500, $1,200, and $800 respectively by MCDS, but only the top two commercials will be aired on television.
.
The winning clip "Television" shows a father and son fighting over a television remote and then accidentally switching to, and settling on, the football channel.
.
Said Mr Tan Cheng Quan, 19, one of the group members: "We wanted something short, punchy and humourous.
.
"So, we came up with the idea of a typical Singapore family scene. Even though the father and son have different viewing interests, they have the ability to compromise on a common interest."
.
The National Family Week begins tomorrow and ends on June 3. — Ted Chen
