The National Family Week (NFW) is being organised annually. 2006 will be its 22nd year, starting from 27 May with celebrations to 30 June 2006. Every year, the focus is on the various aspects of Family Life.
Objectives of NFW
• Encourage families to engage in family traditions / routines to foster
strong Bonds. Specifically, it aims to reinforce intergenerational relationships between children, parents and grandparents.
• Educate children, parents, and seniors to trust / communicate effectively, learn from each other and build strong relationships
• Encourage the community to support healthy and vibrant families

Features
1. Ground events
Every year, MCYS collaborates with many other private and community partners on organising activities to celebrate National Family Week. In year 2005, our partners include NTUC Fairprice, NTUC Media, National Heritage Board, CDC, People’s Association, UFM100.3, SAFRA, Republic Polytechnic, Youth Leaders Foundation, Centre For Fathering and many other Volunteer Welfare Organisations.
2. Media publicity
To reach the masses, the media had always been used as an effective approach to spread our family messages. We have TV programmes, dramas, game shows, commercials, radio shows and sometimes movies produced in line with National Family Week’s theme. Besides that, our events had also garnered high level of media coverage by the various media. Last year in 2005, National Family Week generated over $2 million worth of PR value.
3. Workshops and family life education circuit talks
These will be conducted and customised to suit the needs of different ethnic communities. The topics seek to strengthen intergenerational ties, and experienced speakers from our VWOs will be conducting many more family life education and skills-equipping programmes.
