Pro-Family Leave Schemes

1     The Government has announced the enhanced Marriage and Parenthood (M&P) package on 20 August 2008.   The enhanced package seeks to foster an overall pro-family environment in Singapore through a broader range of measures that offers great support in both financial and non-financial areas.  This is to enable Singaporeans to have more support in getting married and having and raising children.  As such, the revised package will also extend the relevant benefits to beyond the fourth child.

2     Juggling a career and a family is not an easy task. The Government recognises the need to develop a more family friendly work environment which provides parents with dedicated time away from the workplace to spend time with their children and family. A workplace which is conducive to balancing the demands of work and family lives of the employee will also motivate him or her to perform better. The result is a high performing organization where staff are loyal and productive, thereby enhancing companies’ business performance.

3     Parents will benefit from the following enhanced/new leave schemes:

(i) Government-Paid Maternity Leave scheme - for children born on or after 17 Aug 08
(applicable for mothers who are employees or self-employed persons)
(ii) Government-Paid Childcare Leave scheme - for parents with children aged below 7 years on or after 17 Aug 08
